I oversaw the Berlin Airlift. The Berlin Blockade forced our country to take drastic measures. At the end of World War One,The Allies and Russia had conquered all of Europe. Russia conquered up to East Germany. It was agreed that the capital city of Berlin be split up between the Allies and Russia. Russia owned all the land around Berlin. Later, Russia decided that they would stop transit to the American part of Berlin, to try and starve the Americans so that they would give up their part of Berlin to the Russians. The only form of transport the the American part of Berlin had was a narrow air corridor that had been agreed on prior to the Berlin Blockade. I decided to fly in supplies for over a year day after day to Berlin. Finally Russia relented and let transport in, but the Berlin Airlift and Blockade began the Cold War. -Alice
